CANGO CAVES
Situated in the Cango Valley, 27km from Oudtshoorn, the caves were the first tourist attraction in South Africa & was first to appoint a permanent guide. Inhabited as far back as 80 000 years by the San, & rediscovered in 1780 by carrel herder, it has evolved to become the premier show cave on the continent. Cango started to form 20 million years ago in a tropical climate and is still active as a low energy cave system.
